How I teach

If you’re the parent of a student, or a college student yourself, learn I help students improve their grades.

Learn how I can help you advance your current career through coding. Or get a new career as a coder.

Over more than ten years of teaching people to code, I’ve developed key teaching strategies.

How I teach

My experience includes a degree from Caltech in computer science and 16 years working as a programmer at NASA.

I also have 500 hours of training in a method that brings mindfulness to learning strategies, called the Feldenkrais Method. This helps me to be more empathic to the struggles of learning students and see the wisdom of patience.

Over more than ten years of teaching computer science, I’ve identified six key teaching strategies.

Building a strong foundation

Helping you connect the dots before we progress to the next level.

Encouraging small steps

Showing that a large goal can be reached by many small steps.

Keeping it simple

Avoiding unnecessary complexity.

Using your imagination

Using your imagination to make ideas concrete and easier to remember.

Asking for precision

Reinforcing the precise words you need to describe your code.

Developing independence

Asking you to solve problems through your own insights, whenever possible.
